When life strikes like midnight

But the stars aren’t there

When you feel a little colder

And your head is a little a queer

Like waiting for the sunrise

Clearly on the wrong side

Like heaven in my canvass

The angels aren’t clear

These tears are for real

I’ve been singing for years

Feeling too unlucky

When you’ve already won it all

Prepared and very ready

But nowhere to go

Living/diving into questions

The answers on the same pool

Banging yourself too much

On the same old hard wall

Yes, these tears are for real

I held them for years

Like a love gone wrong

In the years of pretending

Trying to get over

But I’ve always loved you all along
